Frequently asked
The questions we actually get asked.
Grouped by who tends to ask them. If your question is not here, write to team@eduplatter.com and we will answer it and add it.
Getting started
Getting started.
How long does implementation take?
Six to ten weeks to a unified warehouse and first dashboards for a single-campus institution with reasonable data hygiene. Multi-campus systems with heterogeneous SIS instances take three to five months. Anyone promising two weeks is either not integrating your data or not validating it.
What do we need to have ready before we start?
One named owner per source system, and a willingness to hold a definitions workshop. That is genuinely it. You do not need clean data — cleaning it is part of the work — but you do need someone empowered to decide what “retention” means.
What if our data is a mess?
Then you are typical. The validation phase exists precisely for this: we reconcile against your own reporting and fix or explain every disagreement before anything is built on top. Where a source is too poor to use, we say so rather than imputing quietly.
Can we start with one department?
Yes, and often you should. A single-programme pilot proves the integration and gives you a real number to take to a wider committee. It is also the cheapest way to discover a definitions dispute.
Pricing and procurement
Pricing and procurement.
Why is there no price list?
Because a 2,000-student college and a 60,000-student system are not the same engagement, and a per-seat price would penalise you for giving more advisors access — which is the opposite of what we want. The pricing page sets out the four variables that drive the number.
What drives the cost?
Enrolment band, how many systems need integrating and how healthy they are, whether you want termly efficacy studies, and your deployment and residency requirements.
Are there per-seat charges for advisors?
No. Adding an advisor should never be a budget decision.
Do you answer RFPs and security questionnaires?
Yes, directly, usually within five working days. We will also tell you early if we are the wrong fit rather than spending three months of your committee’s time.
Is there a charge to export our own data?
No. Your warehouse contents are yours and exportable at any time in an open format.
Privacy and data
Privacy and data.
Do you sell or reuse student data?
No. We act as a data processor under your instruction. Your data is not sold, not pooled with another institution’s, and not used to train models that serve anyone else.
Where is the data stored?
India by default, in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Dedicated tenants and other regions are available; on-premises deployment is available on System engagements.
Are you FERPA compliant?
For institutions with US students we operate as a School Official under the institution’s direct control, with a written agreement limiting use to the stated purpose and prohibiting redisclosure. See Security & data.
Can a student ask to see or delete their data?
Yes, through their institution, which is the fiduciary or controller. We assist promptly but cannot act on a student request directly without institutional instruction — doing so would breach our processor obligations.
Do you have ISO 27001 certification?
Not yet. We operate to its control set and can share our internal assessment, but we do not hold the certificate. If your procurement requires one, tell us in week one rather than month three.
The models
The models.
Are the models the same for every institution?
No, and we have published the study explaining why they cannot be. A model fitted on one institution loses roughly 19 points of precision when transferred to another. Every deployment gets its own fitted model.
What if the model does not work for our students?
That is a real outcome. If the fitted model does not beat a simple attendance-and-assessment baseline on your held-out data, we tell you before anything reaches an advisor rather than deploying it anyway.
Will the model discriminate against particular students?
It can, and ours did — we under-flagged first-generation students by 11 points for two terms before catching it. That is why subgroup fairness reporting now runs on every refit and a gap above five points blocks deployment. The full account is EPR-2026-02.
Can we use a risk score to place a student on probation?
No. We will not wire a prediction to an automatic consequence, we require it contractually, and we build the product to make it difficult. A model with good aggregate accuracy still misclassifies individuals.
The platform
The platform.
How do we get access to the Student Impact Platform?
Access is provisioned by your institution once an engagement is in place. Credentials are issued by your student success or IT office, never by us directly — so if you are staff or a student and need access, that is where to ask. Institutional administrators can reach us at support@eduplatter.com.
Who issues platform credentials?
Your institution, not us. We never create an account for a student or staff member directly, and we cannot reset a credential without institutional authorisation.
Does it integrate with our SSO?
Yes, via SAML 2.0 or OIDC against your identity provider, so account lifecycle follows your existing joiner-mover-leaver process. SCIM provisioning is available on System engagements.
Can our analysts query the warehouse directly?
Yes, on Impact and System engagements. Direct SQL access to your own warehouse is included, because your IR office should not have to ask us for a number they could get themselves.
Still unanswered
